CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Natsumi Hikari
Character Canon: Kamen Rider Decade
History: Her personal history can be found here, and canon info can be found right here.
AU History: Natsumi Hikari is a Union-native, having spent all her life within the city itself. Her family runs a photography studio, appropriately named the Hikari Photo Studio, and she's grown up knowing all that there can be known regarding the business of taking, making and selling photographs. While she lost her parents at a young age to severe illness, she still had her grandfather around to help raise her and teach her the family business. It helps that said grandfather is a Malamar Shifter, and thus is able to connect with Pokemon and is thus usually able to talk them into behaving long enough for a few photos.
As she got older, though, she did begin to slack off on her school work. Part of it was because she began to grow more and more uncomfortable being around many people in a small place for hours on end. Too noisy, even when most other people would think everyone else is being "quiet"; the only true piece she's found is at home, after business hours. It didn't help that she started to believe that she didn't need anymore schooling in order to be a good photographer and eventual business manager. So, she, a few friends, and one apparently stressed-out teacher decided to skip school completely and make their own "slacker's club", so to speak. Because most of her friends were rowdy guys, it was easy to believe that some of the "noise" she heard was just them being themselves.
One night, though, she dreamed that she and her best friend, the only other girl in their "club", were running away from a pack of Honedges. They make a right turn at a certain crossroads, only to be caught by another Honedge who immediately started draining the life energy out of her best friend through its wrap. The very next day, the guys of their club dared the girls into stealing the plaque off the front gate of their public school. So, late at night, Natsumi and her friend attempted to steal that plaque...only Natsumi picked up the "noise" of some patrolling Swords just moments before said Swords spotted them. They ran, and when they actually came to the crossroads that Natsumi saw in her dream, she dragged her friend with her as she made a left turn instead of the right one. This actually saved their bacon, for had they taken that right turn, they would've ended up in the arms of another Swords patrol, and thus getting them arrested for attempt theft and related charges.
It's not only until they made it back to their club that Natsumi realized that she's actually Psychic. At least, a Psychic-type Enlightened. The "noise" she was hearing was actually everyone's unguarded thoughts in the form of "crowd noise" in the ears of her mind. But that's not the only revelation she came to. After their close brush with the justice system, Natsumi and her friends resolved to become better, more productive members of society. Thankfully, the teacher that had joined them had listed their "slacker's club" as a life experience class, and thus gave them all the highest grade available. That grade allowed them to go back to school with little consequences beyond the mountain of homework to catch up on.
All of that happened a few years ago, and since then, Natsumi has completed her schooling and has become a full-time worker at the Hikari photo studio. She's also been working with her Grandpa on trying to harness her Psychic abilities, since his typing's part-Psychic. While she knows how to use her mental abilities to defend herself as well as those around her, she still feels that she has a long ways to go before she can fully master her abilities. However, she didn't fully realize her Egg Mastery until her grandpa got a Chansey egg to act as the family caretaker and "Natsumi's little sister", as he had put it. She helped in taking care of the egg, causing a Happiny to hatch instead and having said Happiny adopt Natsumi as her "mother."
Ever since the attacks on Glacier ended, though, she's been having a repetitive dream: One where she and Malamar!Grandpa see storm clouds across the region - "storms of war", the dream version of Grandpa explained - and a shadowy figure descending from those clouds. The only thing that she could make out regarding that figure is that he has a pink camera, and that his name is Tsukasa Kadoya. She wasn't sure if it was one of her rare prophetic dreams for a few weeks, but then she came across a guy named Tsukasa Kadoya, who had a pink camera. Except instead of a great threat, she only saw an homeless amnesiac that needed help. After some reluctance, she offered to let him stay at the studio and let him earn his keep by working as part of the studio. He accepted.
For a few months, her life was full of photography, raising her baby Pokemon, and dealing with Tsukasa living and working around her home/studio. Thus, both Soulfasting and Salvation passed by with Natsumi feeling that things couldn't get anymore hectic after the holidays. The direct attack on Union proved her very wrong, though. Thankfully, no one in her family died, though her grandfather ended up in a medical tent due to his injuries from falling debris. But both the kitchen and the front entrance is now wrecked, and she has to take over the entire business until her grandfather recovers, on top of training her Happiny and continuing to house and tolerate the amnesiac and his Pokemon.
Canon Personality: ((NOTE: There will be spoilers for her series from this point forward, especially the ending movie of her series))
When she was younger, Natsumi used to not be the hard-worker she's known to be today. Back in high school, she tended to not care much about any work that needed to be done and would rather spend time goofing off with her friends. On those points, she has matured into the responsible and hard-working woman she is today. As the future owner of the studio, she does everything she can to keep things running as smoothly as possible, ranging from setting up things to be used for photo shoots to making the photos themselves. She's also developed a good sense of finances, making sure that anyone using the studio's services make their payments when necessary. She can come across as a bit bossy at times, but it's usually when she feels that something must be done - either for business, or for the greater good. If necessary, she will use her Laughing Pressure Point (see: Canon Abilities) to motivate someone into doing the requested task.
What hasn't changed from her high school days, though, is how she normally acts when she's around friends in more peaceful settings. Natsumi tends to relax in those moments, smiling much more often and teasing her friends when the chance presents itself. She'll even freely voice things she'd normally wouldn't say in others setting, like someone or something being cute. And even when she's not around friends, she still tends to be friendly and willing to help someone in need. She'll take someone in if they need a place to stay, and offer to patch up any wounds that they might have. Even if there's nothing she can physically do, she'll do her best to encourage someone with her words to do the right thing, even if the words don't come to her easily.
But if the matter at hand is related to anything intimate or generally romantic? That's where things get a little complicated for her. She's never been good dealing with most feelings for anyone that are more than platonic. Family love, yes, but romantic? Never! She always feels awkward and uncomfortable facing those feelings for everyone. In short, she's a tsundere. It doesn't help when the most possible love interest for her acts like a jerk to her a lot of the time, in order to cover his real feelings - either towards her or towards a mutual friend. More often than not, she'll use her Laughing Pressure Point on him in lieu of the usual violence shown by your typical tsundere.
But even when she's being driven up the wall by her friends, she'll not the type to abandon any of them. She trust and care about them too much to turn her back on them, and she believes that they would do the same for her. For example, she was offered a jailbreak during the one time she was framed for murder. However, she refused, stating that she trusts her friends to clear her name and thus let her walk out a free person that way. That trust and caring heart is what leads her to make the decision to let her home, the Hikari Photo Studio, be her friends' home to always return to, no matter what happens. There's also the sense of joy that comes from being on a journey with friends. Despite the reasons for traveling between worlds, it is fun to go wandering with people you know rather than with strangers - or worse, by yourself. She doesn't regret becoming a traveler, but rather enjoys the opportunity to explore a new place and learn new things that way.
However, even that kind of faith can only go so far in the face of all that happens, for at the end of the day, she wasn't a Rider like her friends are for most of their journey together. She wasn't able to go out and fight against the villains threatening all the good people in the worlds they visited. It does frustrate her, sometimes, that she couldn't be there to help her friends in that manner. And when things got truly dark, like when the Bad End they were trying to prevent does happen, it leaves her feeling rather helpless, like she can't find, help, or save her friends at all. If left alone with those horrible thoughts long enough, it can make her feel depressed.
But if given the chance to make a difference? She'll take it. If she's given the ability to fight against those who threaten innocents, and her friends in particular? She will use that ability to the fullest extent. And if she is left with either killing a dear friend, or let him destroy the worlds further? She'll do it. She won't be happy, and she'll cry over his dying body, but she'll stop him by any means necessary.
AU Deviation: Thankfully, the world is not on the path of destruction (yet) in this AU! And she currently sees no need to kill anyone at this time. In this Brave New World AU, Natsumi is more like how she was during the first part of the first episode - a normal photo studio worker stuck with a high-headed amnesiac that she took in. While she does feel some level of powerlessness due to seeing her home and city in ruins, that is tempered by the facts that she can be comforted by the fact that she can help people still, and that she can still do *something* to help Union recover - even if that means taking photos of silver linings of hope amid the wreckage.
However, she will initially be a little more withdrawn due to her Psychic abilities not being fully trained. While she does have a handle on her basic moves - and has fully mastered the Laughing Pressure Point - her mental abilities still require training, due to her not having a proper buffer against the roar of people's unguarded thoughts. This is especially true around big crowd and in any sized crowded room. She'll also be a bit more motherly, since her starter Pokemon is barely more than a baby, as well as due to the fact that she actually hatched said Pokemon herself.
Canon Abilities: She has two main abilities for the majority of her canon. Her first ability are prophetic dreams regarding the "Rider Wars" that Tsukasa - aka, Kamen Rider Decade - is destined to bring about. Mostly, she dreams that Tsukasa will kill all the other Riders initially, but that changes near the end of the TV series into an proper Rider-Vs-Rider war where all the Rights fight each other, instead of everyone teaming up to try and defeat Decade.
Her second ability, which is also her main ability, is the Laughing Pressure Point. Commonly referred to as the Hikari Secret Technique, it's a pressure-point attack where Natsumi jams her right thumb into a pressure point on someone's neck in order to cause them to laugh uncontrollably. The time of the laughter can rage from a few seconds to one or two minutes. She often uses this on Tsukasa in order to keep him from being too much of an unhelpful jerk, but it can be used on any being that has a neck, human or non-human, with a few notable exceptions. For a bug-type monster race called Worms, it causes them to cry instead of laughter. And for a body-stealing race of time demons called Imagin, the Laughing Pressure Point can drive a non-Boss-level Imagin out of a person's body.
All her other abilities, though, only occur while she's wearing the Kivaara Armor as Kamen Rider Kivaara. In this armor, she has access to the Kivaara Sabre, which is used to fight against the monsters of her series. She initially donned this armor to stop and eventually kill Decade in order to save the universe from total destruction. After Decade's revival into a normal Rider, though, she continues to use this armor as an ally Rider of his. Her finishing attack is the Sonic Stab, where wings of lavender light spread out from behind her as she rushes forward with a powered slash. The armor also ups her strength for attacks - especially her kicking power! It also allows her to jump higher than normal and run 100 meters in 7 seconds at her max speed.
Enlightened Abilities: Natsumi is a Psychic-type with Egg Mastery and the potential to gain a second typing, Steel, during her evolutions. The Psychic type is due to her having prophetic dreams in her canon. The Egg Mastery is due to the fact that she's the one trying - and sometimes succeeding - in keeping everyone in line during non-battle situations. Considering that she acts like a firm-but-fair mother dealing with unruly children (especially in regards to Tsukasa), I felt that being an Egg Master would fit her in this case. The Steel type she'll gain later on is a nod to her eventually gaining her Rider armor during the final movie of her series.
She's initially starting off as a low-level Psychic who can only pick up a being's stray thoughts as "crowd noise", a form of mental white noise. She can only get a sense of what the basic meaning of those thoughts are, like "food" or "bored", and she can only hear it no more than 50 yards away. This works for both Pokemon and humans, but the only beings whose thoughts she can't pick up are those with Dark typing, due to the latter's immunity to Psychic typing. The type immunity will remain the same regardless of Natsumi's evolution stage. Also, she does have some prophetic dreams. But at this point, they are only related to certain not-so-dire threats - like the risk of arrest - or meeting someone very important to her future. Regarding moves, she'll have a few weak moves, such as Psywave and Barrier.
Upon her first evolution, she'll gain the Steel type as a secondary typing. Bits of silver and lavender armor plates begin to appear on her body, and they can expand to cover her arms, legs, body, and neck thru the Iron Defense move. Her Psychic abilities also expand as well, allowing her to pick up stray thoughts more clearly in the form of words. However, her dreams also begin to focus on more important warnings - dire threats not only for her, but for important people and Pokemon in her life as well. She'll also gain stronger Psychic moves, as well as a couple of other Steel moves. At this point, Heal Pulse will be one of the moves that becomes available for her.
When she evolves into her final evolution, those Steel plates will grow to form the majority of her Kivaara armor from canon. The exception will be the head, where small Steel plates will form a circlet around her head and can produce a Barrier aura around her head to help protect it. Also her hands will end up having steel claws on her fingertips. Strong Steel and Psychic moves will be available at this point. Her mental abilities will solidify into full-on telepathy, where she can read full thoughts and images in someone's mind, and she can send thoughts and images to them as well.
Starter Pokémon: Chiaki the Happiny
Notes/Special Considerations: The player seeking to app Tsukasa Kadoya/Kamen Rider Decade has given permission to use his character for this app.
Also, I'm willing to throw up a permissions post regarding her psychic abilities, since I'm aware that not everyone who plays a non-Dark-type character would be comfortable having someone picking up the thoughts of, or having prophetic dreams of said characters. If the dreams are not doable for this game, I can drop them and just have her be more telepathic.
SAMPLES
(NOTE: You may link a previous entry or thread, including testrun or musebox threads (but NOT Dear Mun), for one or both samples. However, we want to see the character in the setting of Brave New World and specifically in their AU for at least one sample.)
First-Person: First test and second test
Third-Person: As soon as the front double-doors close, Natsumi sighs in relief. She loves her work, but those young men who try and hit on her just drives her up the wall sometimes... Checking the time on the clock, she smiles in relief and gets up from her seat, stretching her arms high above her head with a slight groan. "Thank goodness, it's closing time...wonder what Grandpa's making for dinner." She gathers up the sales receipts, places them into a slot within the cash drawer, and then carries the drawer down the hallway and through a second set of double-doors into the main studio/living room.
The small table in that room has yet to be set for dinner, thankfully, though she does hear her grandfather Eijirou clattering around in the kitchen. She doesn't have to look to know that he's shifted into his Malamar form for the evening; the amount of noise from so many cooking utensils being pulled out all at once says it all. Idly wondering what dinner would be, she carefully sets the register drawer down on the table before turning towards the couch. Or rather, what lays on the couch:
A large Pokemon egg, nestled within some warm wooly blankets.
Her smile turns warm as she fondly walks over to gently adjust the blankets around the egg. She remembers the joy on Grandpa's face when one of his old friends presented them with the egg about a week ago, explaining that she wanted to give the "Chansey" inside to a good home. In Natsumi's mind, it's a win-win: Grandpa's more at ease with the idea of Natsumi no longer being alone after he's gone, now that she'll have "a little sister," as he's put it. And Natsumi herself has her own worries put to rest about leaving Grandpa alone in his old age, knowing how Chanseys tend to be both natural caretakers and stout defenders of the home. She'll have to train the Pokemon, of course, but it's not like she's going to become one of those grand trainers that regularly go running off into the blue at the behest of the Union Council. Not that it's not a bad thing to travel, though. In fact, she might take her camera with her when she does start the Pokemon's training so that she can capture some nice shots of wherever said training spots might be...
Her thoughts, however, are cut off as she feels the egg shifting beneath her hands. Her Psychic ability is even picking up a stray thought - nothing more than a feeling of "out. Out-out-out!" But...that's not possible, right? After all, it's only been one week, and normally eggs don't hatch for another week, at least--
Crack! Crrk-crick! The first crack appears on the eggshell.
"Grandpa! Chiaki's hatching!"
